Fekat Circus European Tour - Summer 2011
We are pleased to announce that Fekat Circus's artists will be touring for the first time in Europe, from June till August 2011, with an incredible production inspired from the legendary history of Makeda (Queen of Saba).. and accompany with traditional Ethiopian live music!! The full calendar of the tour will be available on the web on May.
The project is realized in collaboration with Nomad Adventure and Circo Paniko .

Promoting culture & awareness in Southern Ethiopia - March 2011
Fekat Circus' members just spent 8 days in Konso (Southern Ethiopia) providing workshop in "image theatre" to a group of local youths that will continue to run theatre activities in the newly established Cultural Centre of Konso .
In addition, Fekat's artists raised awareness on the issue of "water and sanitation" among the local community trough the medium of an interactive circus & theatre performance.

Señior Stets meets Fekat Circus - January 2011
A very special guest, an incredibile artist that we feel very lucky to have among us for a full month: Karl Stets. Practicing and performing with him around Addis Ababa has been a great experience.. and also learning that there are great artists with very small ego!!
Continuation of the "Smile's medicine project" - September 2010
After the first successfull year of the "Smile's medicine project", two new workshops has been organized to refining Fekat's animators and doctor clowns. The two teams will now continue to bring smiles and fun in the paediatric ward of Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa thanks to the support of Fondation Alta Mane (Switzerland).

Starting of the new Fekat's theater & gym - August 2010
After eight months of continous efforts, the members of Fekat Circus have finally completed the new theatre & gym which is now ready to host circus trainings and performances!! Trainings are provided freely to children and youth every monday-thursday-saturday-sunday afternoon.. everybody is welcome to join!!
Fekat circus members started also daily trainings and we will soon be ready to surprise you with a new creation!!
Exchange program with Vertigo Circus School (Italy) - July 2010
Second exchange program with students from the Vertigo Circus School of Torino (Italy) who spent thirty days with Fekat Circus in Addis Ababa. A special thanks to Garazi for all the energy she putted in our gym's construction!!
Giullari Senza Frontiere meets Fekat Circus - March 2010
A crew composed of eight Italian street artists, the Giullari Senza Frontiere (Jugglers Without Borders) has been working with the Fekat Circus group for two extraordinary months of melting experience. Beside helping in the construction works of our new gym, the Giullari Senza Frontiere came with a suitcase full of energy and fun! The two groups have been training, performing and travelling together. Fekat Circus discovered a different way of beeing circus artists and we wish also Giullari Senza Frontiere earned something from this experience.

Workshop in Puppetry - February 2010
Two weeks training in puppets construction and animation has been provided on voluntarly base by Ms. Teresa Alari Gil from Tartrana Titteles company (Spain) to all members of Fekat Circus. The puppets constructed during the workshop started immediately to take life in the paediatric ward of Black lion Hospital.
Starting the construction of Fekat Circus theatre & gym - January 2010
On January 5th the Fekat Circus members started to construct their own new theatre-gym inside of Fekat compound. The walls are made entirely by mud and sand, while the roof by wood and straw. Such project has several advantages. Besides being one of the cheapest solutions, it is also the most sustainable one. We will also learn how to construct buildings with materials that are easily available. The theatre-gym has been designed freely by the architects Mr. Lorenzo Fontanta and Mr. Vincenzo Aiello. Both are also following with a great passion the construction works, flanked by a local NGO involved in protection’s environment projects, called “13 Months Sunshine”. Circus trainings and performances will start again in our new theatre-gym after June/July 2010. Before that time, we should produce more than 6000 mud bricks.. Strong arms and legs are more than welcome to join us!
The construction’s project has been possible thanks to the financial support of Project Matrix from Addis Ababa.
"European Union Road Tour Show" - October 2009
Fekat Circus realized an awareness raising campaign focused on road risks and female education. The campaign is promoted by the Delegation of the European Union Commission from the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. The opening of the campaign took place at the National Theatre of Addis Ababa on October 5th. Afterwards, the Fekat Circus crew has been touring for fourty days in the northern, western and southern regions of Ethiopia (rural areas), covering more than 9000km. In total, 21 shows were performed. We estimate that approximately 20,500 people were reached during the whole tour.
The campaign foresaw a theatrical-circus performance which end with an open forum. The audience were also invited to come on the stage to replace the actors in order to change the theatrical story!
Fekat Circus New Centre - September 2009
In September 2009 Fekat Circus moved in a new compound!
Our new centre is an ancient and beautiful house surrounded by trees and clean air in the area of "Piassa" (Tewodros square). According to our plans, the rennovations works of the house and the construction of the new gym (made with our own hands!!!) will carry on until June 2010.
Even though the construction works, most of Fekat Circus activities will continue to be carried during this period. Any volounteers with strong arms or experience in the construction field are more than welcome to join us!

Starting of the "Smile's medicine project" - June 2009
The hospitalized children of Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa start to have the chance to laugh and travel into magic worlds!! Starting from July 2009, Fekat Circus crew run twice per week clownery, games, story telling, and puppetry activities in the pediatric ward of the hospital.
The Smile's medicine project is realized thanks to the support of Fondation Alta Mane (Switzerland).

Fekat Circus's documentary - 2009
Thanks to the support of a team of spanish volunteers, We started to realize a video-documentary on Fekat Circus because we would like to show to the world an exemplary story: a group of young Ethiopians who were destined to become daily laborers or criminals but had an unusual dream... transform their and others lives trough the inner power of arts. We can now proof that dreams can become real even in the “dry” ground of Africa. In fact, through this documentary, we wish we will inspire and motivate other young African artists!
We are looking forward for any kind support (financial, material, editing and documentary skills) in order to realize it. For the time being we have a very small budget but we are confident that we will succeed!
